Medium-Sized Rural Garden

  • A proposed design for my parents’ garden in Northern Bavaria. As the neighbourhood is getting build up with new houses they were looking for some screening along the road and making more use of the south-facing front garden.

They were also looking for some screening for the balcony and west-facing patio which are now quite close to the neighbouring property.

The soil is heavy clay which cracks in summer and is very heavy and cold in winter.

The next phase will be the Planting Plan.

  • My design proposes terracing for the front garden, with hedging along the road. The introduction of trees along the border helps with the feeling of privacy on the balcony and creates shade to sit under in the summer.

The introduction of a c-shaped border provides some colour and interest and invites the clients to come outside and enjoy the front garden.

Some fencing and a border by the west-facing patio in the back garden were introduced with a retaining wall to provide access to the balcony. The existing vegetable garden was moved to the front garden, allowing ornamental planting to provide interest from the much-used kitchen, but also study and lawn area. Sections of grass being left to grow long will help anchor the garden in the wider landscape and grassland to the north of the property.
