Small Town Garden

  • A proposal for the back garden of our rented property. I was looking into greening up the large patio area at the bottom of the garden and creating a sitting area that is more surrounded by greenery. I also wanted to introduce a small area for vegetable growing.

The garden is on a north-facing slope with various amounts of shade & clay soil.

  • The design proposes to introduce some planters and a climber to the patio area, making use of the south-facing wall.

In the upper half of the garden a slightly sunken circular lawn area invites to sit in a space surrounded by planting. The existing tree and a screen block views from the neighbouring properties making the space more comfortable to sit in. A semi-circular path surrounded by planting connects the lawn with the shed and existing main path.

The narrow bed, which was used to grow ornamental plants, now has two raised beds for growing vegetables in the warmest area of the garden, allowing the existing climbing rose to grow in between.

Some screens are proposed to divide the main garden from the back entrance, bin/compost area and grow house.

The lawn area and raised beds have been installed with the next stage being the implementation of the planting plans.
