Relaxing front garden
Oxfordshire
-
A new layout was needed for this Front Garden that had been designed almost 30 years ago.
The client was looking for better access to the front door and the side entrance as well as somewhat separating this part of the front garden from the driveway. The planting was to be relatively low maintenance and structural with added seasonal interest.
Part of the brief was to somewhat stay within the existing layout which was delineated by brick edging.

The layout for the paths was chosen so that it stayed within the existing brick edging with a clear path guiding visitors to the front entrance, whilst still providing access to the side gate. Clean, straight edges delineate the planting areas with larger resting spaces to enjoy the spring sunshine.
We chose the planting to be suitable to the site, which has relatively free-draining, alkaline soil. The space can become quite hot in the summer closer to the house whilst other part of the garden are partially shaded or in full shade.
We used metal edging which is close in colour to the beautiful, hand-welded metal gate, whilst working well with the existing brick edging.
The landscaping and built was done by Wild to Wonderful, the planting installation by me.
